What is the Best Way to Store Honey?

Heating vs Cooling

Frequently Asked Questions

THIS HONEY IS NOT LIKE THE HONEY I BUY AT THE STORE, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

The honey at the store has most likely been pasteurized and ultra-filtered. This is to prevent crystallization (crystallization is a natural and healthy occurrence), and keep the color light, which makes it look nice on the shelf for a long time.  But it also takes out the healthy part of honey too… We don’t pasteurize or filter our honey.

IS CRYSTALLIZED HONEY BAD?

Not at all. Crystallized honey is very good tasting, and good for you. It is nature's way of preserving honey! If you prefer it to be liquid however, you can gently warm it in a glass jar for several hours. Never microwave raw honey, as it kills the enzymes.

WHAT IS CREAMED HONEY?

Creamed Honey is honey that has been crystallized in a controlled manner, so that it remains soft and spreadable. It generally has a sweeter taste, and a lighter color.

IS CREAMED HONEY GOOD FOR YOU?

Yes! Raw Creamed Honey from Elden Foods has the same health benefits as Liquid Honey. That's because it is unfiltered and unheated, just like the "Right From the Hive" honey. The only difference is that it is crystallized in a controlled manner to make it smooth and spreadable.

SHOULD YOU REFRIGERATE OR FREEZE HONEY?

It is not necessary to refrigerate or freeze honey. Honey, both liquid and creamed, can be stored in a sealed container, at room temperature (approximately 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit). If you are storing long term (months or years), it should be frozen. Freezing will keep the Enzymes alive, and will essentially "freeze" time for the honey. Once you're ready to use, pull out of the freezer and allow to thaw for 24 hrs. at room temperature. It will be just as you put it in there! Refrigeration also keeps the enzymes alive, however, unlike freezing, refrigeration speeds up crystallization.

DOES CREAMED HONEY EXPIRE?

Creamed Honey does not expire, as long as it is created properly. Elden Foods creamed honey has a shelf life of many, many years, and is good for long term food storage.

DOES ELDEN FOODS TEST FOR PURITY?

Yes, every batch is tested for any possible adulteration, and is guaranteed pure.  If a test ever fails, no matter how small the margin, we simply will not sell it!

DOES ELDEN FOODS TEST FOR CHEMICALS LIKE GLYPHOSATE (Round-up weed killer)?

Yes, Elden Foods Honey must test at zero or at least below the Strict European Union Standards for contaminant residue such as glyphosate to be offered for sale. The United States FDA and EPA standards, we believe, are too lax to be useful.
